Watch the full getting started video for a guided walkthrough of the SANDMARC Telephoto 10× Lens — mounting, focus wheel, camera settings, and how to get the sharpest results at extreme zoom.

  1 Compatibility

The Telephoto 10× Lens is compatible with all iPhone models. It attaches via the threaded mount on a SANDMARC case — a case is required. No clip mount is included or compatible with this lens.

⚠️  A SANDMARC case is required. The 10× Lens weighs 310g and is 183mm long — it must be secured via the threaded aluminium mount in a SANDMARC case. A clip mount is not included or compatible. Cases are sold separately.
⚠️  Minimum focus distance: 16 feet (5 metres). The Telephoto 10× Lens cannot focus on subjects closer than 16 feet. It is designed exclusively for distant subjects — nearby objects will not focus no matter how the focus wheel is adjusted.
ℹ️  Best zoom modes: SANDMARC recommends using the lens at 1× or 2× in Camera for the sharpest results — this uses the main 48MP sensor. Combining with the iPhone's built-in 3× or 5× optical camera (iPhone 15 Pro / 16 Pro / 17 Pro) gives up to 50× total zoom, but a tripod is essential at that magnification level.
ℹ️  Filter compatible: The 10× Lens has a 40.5mm diameter and is compatible with SANDMARC's full filter lineup — ND, CPL, Drama PL, and Scape ND. A filter mount is included in the box.
  2 Camera Location Guide

ℹ️  Quick check: Open Camera and tap — that's the camera to mount the Telephoto Lens over. For sharpest results keep Camera at 1× or 2×. Combining with the iPhone's built-in telephoto for maximum reach requires a tripod.
  3 First Time Setup

At 10× magnification, the setup process is the same as the 6× but the demands on stability are even greater. Follow these steps carefully before your first shoot.

1
Screw the lens onto your SANDMARC case

Thread the Telephoto 10× Lens into the aluminium lens mount on your SANDMARC case. Hand-tighten securely. The lens is 310g and 183mm long — heavier than the iPhone itself. Make sure the connection is firm before lifting the camera.

2
Mount on a tripod

A tripod is essential at 10× — even a steady breath will cause visible shake at this magnification. Use the SANDMARC Tripod or any tripod with a compatible phone mount. For the maximum combined zoom (up to 50× on iPhone Pro models), a tripod is mandatory.

⚠️ Handheld shooting at 10× will produce blurry results in almost all conditions. A tripod is not optional — it's part of using this lens correctly.
3
Open Camera and set to 1× or 2×

Open the Camera app and set to for the sharpest results using the main sensor. On iPhone 15 Pro / 16 Pro / 17 Pro, shooting at (which uses the main 48MP sensor in crop mode) also delivers excellent quality. Avoid tapping into the built-in telephoto camera unless you're on a tripod and want the additional reach.

4
Frame your subject — remember the 16ft minimum

Point the camera at your subject — it must be at least 16 feet (5 metres) away. At 10° field of view, the frame is very narrow. Small adjustments to the tripod head will move the subject significantly — use slow, deliberate panning movements to centre your shot.

5
Adjust the focus wheel

Rotate the focus wheel on the barrel until your subject is sharp. The focus wheel is positioned for easy reach while the lens is on a tripod. Turn left or right incrementally — at 10× the depth of field is extremely shallow and small wheel adjustments make a significant difference on screen.

6
Lock AE/AF and use a remote shutter

Tap your subject on screen and hold to activate AE/AF Lock. Fire the shutter using the volume button or a Bluetooth remote — physically pressing the screen at 10× can introduce enough vibration to blur the shot even on a tripod.

  4 Mounting & Stability

The 10× Lens requires a SANDMARC case and a tripod. At this magnification, no other setup reliably produces sharp results.

Required
Case Mount

The 10× Lens threads into the precision aluminium mount on a SANDMARC case. This is the only mounting option — no clip mount is included or compatible. At 310g, the lens is too heavy for a clip to hold securely. Cases are sold separately.

Required for: All use
Essential
Tripod

A tripod is essential for usable results at 10×. At a 10° field of view, the slightest movement throws the subject out of frame entirely. Use the SANDMARC Tripod or any tripod with a compatible phone mount. For combined zoom beyond 10×, a tripod is mandatory.

Essential for: All shooting — handheld is not viable at 10×
💡  The combined weight of the iPhone + 10× Lens approaches 500g+ — more than many point-and-shoot cameras. Use a tripod with a ball head for easy repositioning, and tighten the head completely before pressing the shutter.
  5 Shooting Tips

Tips for getting the most out of 10× optical zoom — from distant wildlife to low-light cityscapes shot across a skyline.

1× and 2× give the sharpest results

SANDMARC recommends keeping Camera at 1× or 2× for maximum optical quality — both use the main 48MP sensor. Combining with the iPhone's built-in telephoto camera gives more reach, but is best suited for subjects that absolutely require it, and always on a tripod.

Use the focus wheel for every shot

At 240mm and a 10° field of view, the depth of field is extremely shallow — background and foreground blur quickly on either side of the focal plane. Always use the manual focus wheel rather than relying on autofocus. Small adjustments have a large effect; dial slowly and check the screen before shooting.

Use AE/AF lock and a remote shutter

Tap and hold to lock focus and exposure, then fire with the volume button or a Bluetooth remote. Even a gentle tap on the screen at 10× will blur the shot on a tripod. Using a remote shutter eliminates the last source of vibration entirely.

Lean into the natural bokeh

At 240mm, backgrounds blur naturally and optically — not through software processing. This produces a smooth, accurate bokeh that digital zoom and portrait mode cannot replicate. Position your subject against a background with texture or depth, and let the optical compression do the work.

Add filters for full creative control

The included filter mount lets you attach SANDMARC's ND, CPL, Drama PL, and Scape ND filters. An ND filter is especially useful at 10× for slowing shutter speed in bright conditions — useful for smooth video panning shots or long-exposure landscapes at distance.

Works well in low light

Multi-coated glass maximises light transmission and the lens performs in low-light conditions without the chromatic aberration or noise that iPhone's digital zoom produces at night. On a tripod with a longer exposure, the 10× Lens can capture city lights, stadium shots, and night landscapes at distance with excellent clarity.

  6 Telephoto 10× vs 6× vs 2×

SANDMARC makes three telephoto lenses. All three mount on the main 1× camera and produce optical zoom results superior to digital zoom — but they cover very different working distances, subjects, and shooting styles.

The (58mm) is the versatile everyday lens — handheld-friendly, great for portraits, street, and events. The (144mm) reaches further and is ideal for wildlife and sports from a distance with a tripod. The 10× (240mm) is SANDMARC's most powerful zoom, purpose-built for the maximum reach: birds in flight, distant landmarks, stadium action from the back row, mountain ridgelines — subjects where even the 6× isn't close enough.

ℹ️  Not sure which to choose? If your subject is near or up to ~30 metres away and may be moving — choose the 2×. If your subject is further and mostly stationary — choose the 6×. If maximum possible reach is the priority and you're always on a tripod — choose the 10×.
