The lens keeps blocking the camera app. What should I do? And which iPhone app should I use?Updated 16 days ago

If you're using an external lens with your iPhone, you might encounter some compatibility issues with the native iPhone camera app. This is especially true when using telephoto lenses on the secondary camera.

Problem: The iPhone's native camera app doesn't always manage multiple lenses effectively when external lenses are attached. This can lead to issues like the app freezing or the screen blacking out when switching between lenses.

Solution:

  • Primary (Wide) Camera: If you're using the primary camera, stick with the native camera app. For iPhone 13 and newer models, make sure that Macro Control mode is enabled to prevent interference with the camera's autofocus.

  • Secondary (Telephoto) Camera: If you're using the secondary camera with a telephoto lens, we recommend using a third-party camera app. These apps are designed to work with external lenses and offer better control over multiple camera systems.

Recommended Third-Party Camera Apps:

  • Photography: ProCamera and Adobe Lightroom are great options for photography. They offer seamless switching between primary and secondary cameras, as well as advanced features like manual focus and exposure control.

  • Videography: Filmic Pro and Cinema P3 are excellent choices for videography. They offer professional-level video recording capabilities, including support for external lenses and advanced video codecs.

Additional Tip:

When using a telephoto lens on your iPhone's secondary camera, always tap-to-focus on your subject. This will ensure that your photos are sharp and clear, as telephoto lenses have a shallower depth of field.
